The best Casino-based movies one must watch in their lifetime

Movies continue to be one of the best forms of entertainment readily available to us. It is only human nature to enjoy watching things that you are familiar with or interested in. Gambling is not necessarily a movie genre, but enough movies have been made on this incredible subject to demand a good chunk of film history. Gambling movies are often exciting, keeping you on the edge of your seat and depicting someone’s rise to magnificence or their fall from greatness. We’ll tell you a bit about some of the best movies that are centred around gambling or casinos.

Casino Royale, 2006

Casino Royale, directed by Martin Campbell, was the first film in which Daniel Craig donned the role of James Bond. The movie follows James Bond to the Casino Royale in Montenegro where an Albanian private banker holds a tournament. Bond is sent to win against the banker to extract information from him.

The Hangover, 2009

Todd Phillips directed this incredibly famous and hilarious movie starring Bradley Cooper and Zack Galifianakis. This movie tells the story of a missing groom and a bachelor party in which everything has gone wrong after they check-in at a casino in Las Vegas.

Ocean’s 11, 2001

Ocean’s 11 is an incredibly successful heist movie in which a group of talented con-artists decide to rob three different casinos. The film, starring some notable names such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt, features shots of three major casinos in Las Vegas.

The Gambler, 2014

Rupert Wyatt directed this movie based on the 1974 film The Gambler. The movie follows Mark Wahlberg as a literature professor who frequently spends all his money on gambling. His immense debt catches up to him, and his only way out is to play a game against the ones he owes money.

21, 2008

This movie by Robert Luketic tells the story of a group of students at MIT who are trained by their professor to count cards and increase their chances of winning at casinos. The movie, starring Kevin Spacey, was based on real events.

Casino, 1995

This Martin Scorsese masterpiece is a crime film that is based on a book titled Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas. The film follows Robert De Niro’s character named Ace, who oversees a casino and shows us the issues he encounters.

The Cooler, 2003

Wayne Kramer directed this movie that depicts a man who works as a “cooler” at a casino, decreasing the customer’s odds of winning because of his bad luck. His abilities seem to reduce and disappear when he falls in love with a waitress at the casino and what follows makes up the rest of the story.
